SEIU Higher Education Workers Local 2007 is a dedicated labor union representing workers at Stanford University, Santa Clara University, and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center/National Laboratory. We advocate for fair wages, comprehensive benefits, and strong workplace protections, ensuring that higher education and research employees receive the respect and security they deserve.

Our History

Union activism at Stanford University took root in the 1960s and gained official recognition in the early 1970s as United Stanford Workers. With a deep-seated tradition of worker and student solidarity, our union has long been a driving force for activism and collective empowerment. Over the years, we expanded our reach and officially joined forces with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), gaining greater collective bargaining power to improve working conditions for our members.

Our Work

SEIU Local 2007 negotiates collective bargaining agreements with Stanford and Santa Clara Universities to secure fair employment terms and safeguard workers' rights. We represent a diverse group of employees, including technical, trade, and service workers across all sectors. At SLAC, we support technical and trade workers. Beyond contracts, we focus on education, training, and community-building, helping workers develop leadership skills and remain informed about labor rights. By fostering unity, we strengthen our ability to push for positive change and ensure long-term job security for our members.
